Circles

Lyrics by Alec Seeley
Why must we circle round the sun
Just to end up in the place where we first begun
Did anything that filled the spaces, even matter to anyone
If I could move at greater speed
In the opposite direction the earth is taking me
We could stay young forever, never perish, never be
Thought I heard em’ stirring in the attic
Heard ‘em singing songs through the radio static
Came in through my window, left a chill in my head
Now I’m sleeping out back in an unmade bed
When it all runs together and it never feels right
Keep myself clean and I'll keep a clear sight
Though the dancer in the hall is pulling on the frames
Deep down in my heart I’ll never tire of her games
Why must we circle round the sun
Just to end up in the place where we first begun
Did anything that filled the spaces, even matter to anyone
There’s a bandit and a thief prying up my floor
Hiding all the pieces of their long con score
It’s a tell-tale bounty, looking out for a keeper
With every beat of the drum, my body’s getting weaker
Why must we circle round the sun
Just to end up in the place where we first begun
Did anything that filled the spaces, even matter to anyone
I can’t even recall
When you cut off all your hair or that first ripened fall
Did anything that filled the spaces even matter to me at all

Lyrics by Alec Seeley
I’m waiting for something to put fear into me
I’m tired of the city, and I want to be free
Don’t lie to me girl, are you coming with me
We’ll be winners again in the winter
Got out in the morning, left St. Paul behind
We’ll be halfway to Denver before we unwind
You fell asleep, but I didn’t mind
We’ll be winners again in the winter
I’m tired of losing, I take it too hard
But I hope that the summers are warm where you are
When the autumn grows cold and the days grow dark
We’ll be winners again in the winter
Pulled off I-80 for a rusty motel
Been driving all night and my head hurt like hell
Pour me a strong one, I know this too well
We’ll be winners again in the winter
Am I east of my eden, is there somethin’ I’ve missed
Those Steinbeck stories had to put me up to this
I cut my teeth on the pages and the print
Got lost in the scenery and caught up in the midst
Of this brown-eyed, sure-fire, way to exist
Can’t wait till the morning so I can forget
and start again
As I walk down this highway, name it after me
Hire some kids, who’ll clean it for free
Don’t plaster my name on forgotten side streets
We’ll be winners again in the winter
I’m tired of losing, I take it too hard
But I hope that the summers are warm where you are
Cause when the autumn grows cold and the days grow dark
We’ll be winners again in the winter

Parked Car
04:35
|
|||
Lyrics by Alec Seeley
Maybe you were born to serve
Maybe I was born to take
I know this seems wrong
But I never even asked you for your name
This is the moment I went wrong
No better time to draw a blank
And as sad as it seems
I jumped the ship before it even sank
I couldn’t dream of leaving this place
Cause you’re killing me with that look on your face
My head is spinnin’ and I think you know
So park the car, help me up, show me the way back home
This is a pill I’ll have to take
It doesn’t mean I’m over you
I know what I have to do
To keep my regrets far between and few
What if I asked you for a drink
What would you have to say to me?
I’m not the most graceful of men
So maybe it was never meant to be
I couldn’t dream of leaving this place
Cause you’re killing me with that look on your face
My head is spinnin’, and I think you know
So park the car, help me up, show me the way back home
Maybe you were born to serve
Maybe I was born to take
I know this seems wrong
But I never even asked you for your name
I couldn’t dream of leaving this place
Cause you’re killing me with that look on your face
My head is spinnin’, and I think you know
So park the car, help me up, show me the way back home

Haunt
03:44
|
|||
Lyrics by Thomas Ebert and Alec Seeley
So the story goes
A dam breaking free
Emotions start to run
A lock finds its key
Girl from the west coast
Man of the north wood
Paths in the trees crossed
I dreamed of all that could
Will you haunt me
Haunt my soul and bone
Stay with me
‘Til the earth I call my home
So the story goes
Crashing and burning
Shooting star glows bright
Souls entwined and turning
Girl from the west coast
Man of the north wood
Paths in the trees crossed
I dreamed of all that could
Will you haunt me
Haunt my soul and bone
Stay with me
‘Til the earth I call my home
So the story goes
The bird has left its cage
The steel lies mangled and torn
Yet innocent of rage
Will you haunt me
Haunt my soul and bone
Stay with me
‘Til the earth I call my home

Runaway
04:37
|
|||
Lyrics by Gretchen Weber and Alec Seeley
Oh Minnesota you've been so good to me
Knitted to fulfill our consuming spree
The midwest lands create a blanket full of harvest
Driven to destroy everything around us
Oh Winter you've been so good to me
But the globes a-spinning and the atlas needs a read
Your cold harsh storm leaves the old father’s plane
Lost on the map without a wing
The blackboard’s above, and I see all the markings
Eraser in my hand to forget about the stories
Holding a blank slate with my bags in my hands
Anyway to get out of town, I’ll do all I can
They will never understand why I can’t stay
I’m a runaway
Oh Mama you've been so good to me
I’ll forget about time when I'm high over the sea
Clearing my head full of questions without rhyme
Forgetting the past aint a crime
The blackboard’s above, and I see all the markings
Eraser in my hand to forget about the stories
Holding a blank slate with my bags in my hands
Anyway to get out of town, I’ll do all I can
They will never understand why I can’t stay
I’m a runaway
Oh Home you've been so good to me
But I’m up thousands of feet and my ears are ringing
The highways and ramps paint clovers brimmed with luck
But through the clouds the mountains sing
Oh the mountains, they will sing
Oh the mountains, they will sing
If you listen through the clouds
Hear their voices ringing loud
Oh the mountains, they will sing
The blackboard’s above, and I see all the markings
Eraser in my hand to forget about the stories
Holding a blank slate with my bags in my hands
Anyway to get out of town, I’ll do all I can
They will never understand why I can’t stay
I’m a runaway

Climber
05:13
|
|||
Lyrics by Alec Seeley
Lantern's shining bright on this old rock like glass
If the mountain is my stranger, then the rubble is my past
And I will kick down the spires that were never meant to last
Meant to last
The wax it is spilling on the forest floor it bled
Do canopies scorn the marks, as they loom o'er my head
How tall are the trees when there is no light to shed
On their leaves
Don't turn your back on the sun when it sleeps
Don't lay on a blanket of thorns and curse when your body bleeds
Wild boys listen in on the words that you force through your teeth
Don't turn your back on the sun when it sleeps
Green gives way to grey and the stones mock my stride
I'm fumbling towards the peak, the wind gashed at my sides
There will be no graves to mark the travelers who will die
Who will die
I'm an ill-equipped climber, I've got nothing left to lose
So when this wick is finally spent, my medicine fails true
I will lay in this passage with the summit still in view
Still in view
Don't turn your back on the sun when it sleeps
Don't lay on a blanket of thorns and curse when your body bleeds
Wild boys listen in on the words that you force through your teeth
Don't turn your back on the sun when it sleeps

Negative Sum
04:46
|
|||
Lyrics by Alec Seeley
Oh the bodies
That color me clean
Kindled and jagged
Begging to be seen
There is no piece
No single part of this machine
That breathes such release
Into me
Brazen antlers came
Held me toward the sky
Higher than the mountain
An eye for an eye
Caught on a perfect wave
Left to understand
I am safer here
Held in their hands
There is no piece
No single part of this machine
That breathes such release
Into me
Hello bitter traveler
Left to become
A woolen shell
A negative sum
